Mortal Kombat: Legacy II coming to Blu-ray/Mortal Kombat triple feature on Blu-ray

Mortal Kombat: Legacy II is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on October 14th, 2014.  No further details yet on disc specifications and special features but DMK will have the full review.

Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and Mortal Kombat: Legacy I are available in one package on Blu-ray between $12-$15 depending on where you get if from.  A good deal for any Mortal Kombat fan that hasn’t purchased these films.  I was satisfied with owning Annihilation on DVD and didn’t think it would ever make it into my hi-def collection but this offer is tempting with the first film and Legacy I

Kevin Tancharoen returning?

Disclaimer: Not an April Fools joke.

Fresh off The Gable 5, his latest short film for Machinima starring Eliza Dushku, Inquisitr is reporting that Kevin Tancharoen is still trying to get Mortal Kombat: Legacy Season 3 made. He told Inquisitr:
We are starting to talk about it [Legacy Season 3] literally this week (knock on wood). I’m starting to talk to Warner Bros. and the video game creators, so hopefully we can see it through.
Shortly after Season 2 of Mortal Kombat Legacy premiered in September 2013,  Tancharoen said that he wasn’t interested in resuming his spot in the director’s chair for a third season. He would later drop out of WB’s Mortal Kombat feature film as well.

However, due to Season 2 leaving off with a major cliffhanger and the director citing that they “pissed off way too many people”, it appears that (along with Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon) Tancharoen plans to meet with Warner Bros. and chat about “figuring it out.” The director would go on to say that he believes there are still many more stories to tell in the Legacy universe:
With Legacy Season 1, it was kind of a big experiment. No one has done it before, and we didn’t know if should be an anthology or connected. We did the first one as an anthology and the second one more serialized. In the future, it will definitely be more connected and more cohesive…. We all feel right now that we have such a trajectory to the series. There are so many more stories to tell in that format.
There still has been no update yet on the Mortal Kombat reboot feature film which is supposed to coincide with the release of the next Mortal Kombat video game.

adamDMK:
This is good news for fans of Legacy. I think there needs to be a Season 3 to tie up all of the loose ends Season 2 created and neatly wrap everything up. And since Legacy has been and always will be Tancharoen’s baby, he’s truthfully the only person that should helm Season 3. However, what does this mean for the Mortal Kombat reboot movie? Will this further delay production? I think at this point Legacy has to be treated as a separate entity and not a companion piece from what will become of the feature film. I would expect Legacy to be wrapped up in Season 3 and a whole new “canon” started with the film (and almost certainly a new production team). This seems to be going backwards from what the original idea was, but, its almost a necessity to get the feature film out of developmental hell.

Kevin Tancharoen is moving on…

Disappointing news over the weekend as Kevin Tancharoen tweeted the following:

This would indicate that Tancharoen is not only moving on from Season 3 of the popular Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, but also from the director’s chair of the expected Mortal Kombat film reboot. This is a pretty big blow to the franchise as Tancharoen was partly responsible for the whole revival in Mortal Kombat when he released his unofficial short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.

Warner Bros. has been pretty silent regarding the Mortal Kombat film reboot so it’s not known if they already have another director in mind to take the helm. Regardless, Tancharoen’s ideas and vision of a dark, gritty, and realistic Mortal Kombat were a fresh welcome from fans of the franchise after the debacle of Threshold’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and its B-movie feel. So Tancharoen will be missed.

DMK will continue to follow this story closely.

Breaking: Kevin Tancharoen moves on from Mortal Kombat

Various web sites and Kevin Tancharoen’s Twitter state that he has moved on from the upcoming reboot and possible third season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy in favor of working on other projects. What does this mean for these projects going forward? Stay tuned to DMK as we’ll have the latest news on this story.

After three years of Mortal Kombat, I’ve decided to move on to other creative opportunities. I wish everyone involved in the movie big success. Thanks!
