Mortal Kombat has been announced for the Playstation Vita. The game will include all of the DLC as the console versions plus exclusive features that will make use of Vita’s hardware. A second Challenge Tower with 150 missions will be added on. While there was some talk about reducing the game’s frame rate to 30 fps, that was discarded in favor of staying true to the game’s original gameplay.

Below Ed Boon explains the new features for Mortal Kombat.

“In terms of gameplay, we’ve always wanted MK to be as accessible as possible. For example, you can touch your X-ray meter to execute an X-ray attack. For fatalities, you can “slash” the screen with the appropriate inputs – say, away, away, up – to execute the fatality. It makes some of the more difficult fatalities easier and it’s fun to slash at your screen to fire off a fatality. I was surprised by how engaging it is.”

We’ll have more news on Mortal Kombat for PS Vita so stay tuned.

The Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection has been updated with a patch that not only fixes the online lag but adds features to the game. The Kollection is now available in Europe suggesting that the reason why it took so long to get the North American version updated is to have both releases updated at the same time.

Patch Notes

New video option to stretch the screen on a HDTV

Scorpion’s voice can now be heard when he throws his spear in UMK3

Online mode now displays Gamertags/PSN names on the character select screen, loading screen, and during gameplay

Lag much improved. No longer feels slow.

Unpausing the game no longer leaves the player defenseless

You can now use “Ultimate Kombat Kodes” in UMK3

Video gamma level reduced Some players with 1.02 might be matched up with someone with 1.01 which results in a black screen. Once the patch is available to everyone, this problem should be fixed.

We’ll have more news as more details get released on what is included in the patch.

It’s been more than a couple of weeks but the date for the patch for NetherRealm Studios’ downloadable fighter has finally been revealed. The Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection was released in August and the game was received with mixed to an unwelcoming reception. While the game has a nice price point, it also suffers from presentation issues and crippling lag. Shortly thereafter NetherRealm Studios announced a patch promising to fix the issues fans have been experiencing.

According to Ed Boon’s Twitter, the reason why it took so long to release information about the patch is because…”Testing, submitting & approvals is a LONG process.” It makes sense. Mortal Kombat (2011) has the benefit of hotfixes which do no need company approval unlike official patches which explains on why the X360 version usually gets updated later. We’ll have more news on what the patch for the Arcade Kollection has in store.
