WEAPONS:  [top]

Weapons will be available in Konquest mode but it’s currently unknown how they’ll be obtained or used in the fighting game engine. Each character will have a single weapon style just like MK Deception. There is of course still stage weapons that can be picked up mid-kombat.

DEATH TRAPS & INTERACTIVE BACKGROUNDS:  [top]

Some new death traps that have been seen include

  • Wastelands: Flaming Catapult that fling opponent into a brick tower
  • Battle Arena: 4 different traps, one in each corner. A lava pool, acid pool, giant grinders and spike pit.
  • The Armory: Lava pools and a giant roller
  • Belltower: Crash through the floor onto a bed of spikes.
  • The Subway: The classic train squish – on both sides of the platform

There are also numberous Stage interactions including knocking opponents through gates, down flights of stairs and even into the giant bells.

AIR KOMBAT:  [top]

Air kombat will be playing a major role in MK: Armageddon. Various attacks, combos – even styles branching ones can be performed mid-air. It is also believed that you can perform directional throws from the air thereby setting up you opponent for a Death Trap.

COMBO BREAKERS:  [top]

Combo breakers will be returning and can be performed in the air. They are still limited via the usual 3 lightning bolt system.

PARRYS:  [top]

This new parry system will allow players to deflect attacks from opponents thus leaving them open for a free attack. Like combo breakers, parrys will not be restricted to the ground.

THE VAULT:  [top]

Replacing The Krypt (as seen in MK: Deadly Alliance & MK: Deception) but serving the same purpose. Unlike MK:DA and MK:D, unlocking all items in The Vault can be done in Konquest or Arcade Mode.

CREATE-A-FATALITY:  [top]

Instead of performing a certain button combination and watching it unfold in front of you like a movie or play, you’ll be able to control every step in Fatalities. There’s currently no word on how many movements will be available due to the uncertainty of the game’s memory. Those who prove worthy will be able to take their own Fatalities online to showcase to the world!

Each step of the Fatality earns you a different Fatality Rating. For example a 4 step Fatal is called a Bloody Fatality. Ed Boon has said that performing a larger Fatal is one way to earn kurrency in the game. The maximum steps are 10. You can acutally go past this, however the system will only rate it as a 10 step Fatal.

CREATE-A-FIGHTER:  [top]

The new Create-A-Fighter mode will resemble the popular "Creat-A-Wrestler" (CAW) in today’s wrestling games. This mode allows players to create from scratch a male or female kombatant of their choosing. Not only that, players will be able to assign every attack your CAF makes and even name the fighting or weapon styles to whatever you want. CAF even allows you to create your own taunt!
Here is a detailed run down as the options seen so far.

KONQUEST:  [top]

Konquest mode is said to be based off of the MK: Shaolin Monks engine making for a separate game within itself. Created characters will NOT be used in this mode. You will play as Taven, one of two brothers, who is sent on a quest by your father. All that is known at this point is that the storyline revolves around Blaze. MK: Armageddon producer John Podlasek says Konquest will have two characters; one good, one evil. Taven = Good. Daegon = Bad. It is beleived that these two characters will be unlocked at the completion of Konquest.

The practice modes from MKD’s Konquest are no longer. There is the usual practice mode, however you now don’t have to play through it in Konquest. Ed Boon estimates Konquest should take your roughly 6 hours to complete.

MOTOR KOMBAT :  [top]

The mini games from MK: Deception (Chess and Puzzle Kombat) will not be returning in MK: Armageddon. Instead we are treated to what appears to be Mario Kart Mortal Kombat style. At this stage the roster consists of only 10 characters including: Raiden, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Jax, Mileena, Baraka, Cyrax, Johnny Cage, Bo’ Rai Cho and Kitana. There will be 4 player split screen races as well as the ability to compete in an online 8 player race. In typical fashion, you will be able to bump you opponent off into many waiting death traps as well as the racers having their own specific moves to help them cross the line first.
