The Kolumn: Issue #01

The day is finally here! It is Fatality Friday, and Mortal Kombat mania has once again hit the world by force. The fans have waited for this day for over two years now, and the time has finally come for Midway’s number one franchise to redeem itself as the innovator of violence.

Fans of the franchise have been through a great deal. Watching the franchise head downhill with the video game titles Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat 4. We saw hope in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, but it turned out to be only a mediocre game. Then it hit an all time low with Co-creator of the series John “the man” Tobias leaving Midway and the arrival of what turned out to be one of the worst games in the history of the franchise, Mortal Kombat: Special Forces. Such was expected from the game, but it only turned out for the worst. But I can rant and rave all I want about MKSF, but in truth as a huge Mortal Kombat fan that I am, I can tolerate everything that is MK. No matter what it is.

After MKSF, it seemed as though the series was dead. Then Midway announced that Boon & crew would begin working on the fifth installment of the series. Even though we have watched our beloved Mortal Kombat go through some hard and sometimes even embarrassing moments, every single MK fan across the world was excited. That’s when the anticipation began. For almost two years now, web sites, magazines, etc. has been talking about the next MK game, which later was given the official title of Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance.

Indeed has the last two years flown by. I can’t even believe that MKDA is out in stores today! I can still remember my old MK Shrine days writing about the next MK installment. Wow, it’s amazing if you think about it. Just a year ago, MKDA seemed so mysterious and such a taboo, but today you can go buy the game at a local retailer.

This definitely has been the most anticipated Mortal Kombat game ever! Mortal Kombat II was highly anticipated, but when it came out in ’94, I don’t think there was a single website about the franchise on the net. But in 2002, there are so many different MK fan sites, and video game magazines hyping the game up. So much different kinds of talk have traveled around the last two years about the game. So many rumors circulated, but today we are about to find out what exactly Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance is.

I highly recommend you either go rent or buy this game. Even if you’re not a Mortal Kombat fan, just get it… try it, trust me you’ll like it. So far it has gotten great reviews and it will not be a mediocre game. And as for Boon & co., all I would like to say is great job on the game guys and thank you for everything that is Mortal Kombat. I will always be a Mortal Kombat fan and I will always stick with you guys! I think all of us, as MK fans should thank Boon & crew for creating such a great franchise and following. This is Adam “Ace” C. signing out. Catch you guys next week!

P.S. And on a personal note… I’m glad to be part of the MKDA experience with Dave and his magnificent website. Wait and see what Dave and yours truly have in store for you. Until later.
