As we near our 22nd anniversary of being online, DMK will be closing its doors permanently in 2022. It’s been a great ride, we gave it our all, and we’ll miss everything dearly. Being part of this community for nearly all of its existence, and 20 out of those 22 years as a staff member, I can genuinely say I will forever be grateful for my time here and all the friendships that I made. Even if those were for a moment in time, they were as meaningful as any made in real life.

We never monetized the site or made any money off it. It was all a labor of love. But truth of the matter is, the “fan site” experience is dead. The “old internet” has been dead for a decade now. Between social media, YouTube, Twitch, and Reddit, there’s just no way to compete in this landscape. We’ll never be remotely as popular as some of the Mortal Kombat influencers, and other fan sites either have better content at this point or found a niche. Be honest… how many websites do you actively still visit regularly? I would imagine, like myself, it’s just a handful. At least you’ll have stories for your children of how you got to experience the old internet in all its glory, and you contributed to crashing DMK’s server in 2006 due to the sheer volume of user traffic.

To Dave Rosteck – DMK is your namesake and will forever be yours. It was your Mona Lisa and had every color and hue that you envisioned. You built this website and community from the ground up and made it one of the most popular Mortal Kombat fan sites ever created. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the ride. I fondly remember November 22nd, 2002, like it was yesterday, forming the new deadly alliance and the beginning of something bigger than anyone expected. You are my brother, you are my friend, you were my leader throughout all this, and I will forever cherish our time together creating something so awesome until the day I leave this earth.

To Frank “Holy Grail” Allan – Much of what I mentioned above, can also be echoed here. You were such a passionate Mortal Kombat fan and DMK was lucky to have your passion on full display with all the cool stuff you did for DMK throughout the years. You were an amazing collaborator, but an even better person, producing some amazing work and leaving behind a crazy number of great memories that I will treasure forever. You were, without question, the heart and soul of DMK.

There are countless other folks who contributed to making DMK one of the best Mortal Kombat fan sites ever, and I don’t want to forget including someone by name specifically, but you know who you are and from the very bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for your friendships and contributions to making DMK something bigger than just a Mortal Kombat fan site.

Web hosting is paid through November 2022, so this message will stay up until then probably. Then DMK will go silent forever. DMK will live on via the internet archives, so if you’re feeling nostalgic, feel free to visit our various domains to find glimpses of our life for 22 years. I’ll visit every now and then I’m sure, but only to say hi.
